A citizens’ budget
Each neighbourhood should have a citizens’ budget that can be used to improve the appearance and functioning of that neighbourhood. Decorating the street, improving the appearance of empty lots, and other initiatives that bring residents together and create cohesion and identity. The application process should be simple, transparent, and trust-based, with residents receiving the grant before the project takes place and justifying costs on completion of the work. The amounts available should be high enough to be useful.
